Work restarting on Eastpoint library project

Work is beginning once again on a new location for the Eastpoint branch of the Franklin county Public Library.

The project, which broke ground in 2007, has been delayed by funding issues, but thanks to a recent loan from the USDA, the friends of the library should have enough to complete work on the 5000 square foot building and grounds.

Work is scheduled to begin again on December the 6th.

The new library is located on a 13 acre wooded tract off of Hickory Dip Road.

The new building is needed because the public library has outgrown its current location at the Point Mall.

The Friends of the library are working in conjunction with the Apalachicola Riverkeeper to develop the site, which will include a nature trail.

The Riverkeeper said it plans to do fuel reduction of underbrush and thinning of some trees in order to enhance the wetland.
