5 attorneys apply to be county attorney

Five attorneys from around the area have put in bids to serve as attorney for the Franklin County Commission.

The county commission on Tuesday opened bids from attorneys out of Eastpoint, Carrabelle, Apalachicola, Marianna and Tallahassee.

The bids ranged from 70 dollars an hour to 200 dollars an hour, though some offered monthly or annual prices, and most had a separate rate for litigation.

The current county attorney is Michael Shuler; he has represented the board since January of 2003; The Shuler family has been representing the county for nearly 60 years.

Mister Shuler did put in a bid to continue as county attorney.

The county commission voted in December to seek proposals from attorneys and law firms in an effort to save money on their legal costs.

The board agreed on Tuesday to accept all of the bids, and interview all five attorneys on February the 5th.
