On Saturday, December 29, 2012, former Florida Supreme Court Justice Ben F. Overton passed away.  Justice Overton served on the Florida Supreme Court from 1974 to 1999, and was Chief Justice from 1976 to 1978.  Justice Overton authored more than 1,400 decisions and was instrumental in bringing technological advances to the Court.  He also served nearly ten years on the Pinellas County circuit court and was an active adjunct professor at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law.  As a mark of respect for the memory of Justice Overton, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the County Courthouse of Pinellas County, Florida, the City Hall of St. Petersburg, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
