The water company on St. George Island is seeking an increase
in water rates, and the Public Service Commission will hold a customer service
hearing on the island tomorrow to get public input on the requested increase.
The
rate increase request was made in 2011.
If
it’s approved, residential customers who use about 6100 gallons of water a
month would see their bills increase from 73.07 to 74.45.
Water
Management Services says the rate increase is needed to cover increased
operating costs and to pay for improvements to the island’s water system.
The
last time the company raised rates was in February of 2011.
As
part of the rate increase procedure, the Florida Public Service
Commission will hold customer service hearings on St. George Island to hear from customers.
The
hearings are scheduled for Wednesday, January the 16th at 10
AM
and 6PM at the Fire House on Pine Avenue .
The
hearings could continue into January the 17th.
A
final decision on the rate issue will be made at the Commission’s April 25th
meeting.
You
can get more detailed information about the rate increase request from the
Public service commission website at floridapasc.com.
The
docket number is 110200.
