Fishermen on the Atlantic coast of Florida will
soon be able to catch snook again, but the species will remain off-limits to
Gulf fishermen.
The
recreational harvest season for snook reopens on February 1st in Florida ’s
Atlantic coastal and inland waters.
The
harvest of snook remains closed in all of Florida ’s Gulf of
Mexico state waters until August 31st.
Fishermen
can still catch and release snook during the closure.
The Gulf
closure for snook went into effect in December of 2010, after the population was
hit hard by prolonged cold weather.
The
closure should give the Gulf snook population time to rebound.
