Common Language of Ocean Uses
The National Marine Protected Areas Center has published this document to allow stakeholders and planners to make apples-to-apples comparisons of ocean uses so they can  understand, discuss, map, and evaluate different uses and make informed decisions about them. 
       
Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Fisheries - Temporary Closure   
NOAA Fisheries closes the general category fishery for large, medium, and giant Atlantic bluefin tuna until the general category reopens on June 1, 2013.  
Northeast
By March 7, 2013, please submit your comments on proposed specifications for the 2013 and 2014 Atlantic bluefish fishery, including an annual catch limit, total allowable landings, a commercial quota and recreational harvest limit, and a recreational possession limit.   
NOAA Fisheries announces Northeast Multispecies Common Pool Vessels Trip Limit Adjustments for five stocks, effective February 11 through April 30, 2013. 
NOAA Fisheries has approved four companies to provide at-sea monitoring services and three companies to provide dockside monitoring services in the 2013 fishing year, beginning May 1, 2013.

John Bullard, Northeast Regional Administrator for NOAA Fisheries, announces NOAA's intent to allow carryover of unused 2012 quota into the 2013 fishing year.
Northwest
By March 22, submit your comments on an authorization request to incidentally take small numbers of six species of marine mammals at the Bremerton ferry terminal in Washington State.    

Taking of Marine Mammals Incidental to Specified Activities - Please Comment
By March 22, submit your comments an authorization request to incidentally take 10 species of marine mammals in the Gulf of Mexico, April to May, 2013.
Southeast
By March 15, submit your comments on a proposed rule to implement management measures described in Amendment 3to the Fishery Management Plan for the Reef Fish Resources of the Gulf of Mexico.
Southwest
 
The Pacific Fishery Management Council will hold a workshop, open to the public, February 25-27 on electronic monitoring in the rationalized groundfish trawl fishery.   
 
 Alaska 
NOAA Fisheries determines that a petition to list 44 species of cold water corals off Alaska as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act does not present substantial information to warrant a status review.

NOAA Fisheries issues a notice to decrease the fee rate for the non-pollock groundfish fishery to repay the $35 million loan to finance the capacity reduction program.  
Pacific Islands
Find out how to renew Pacific Islands longline and receiving vessel permits, which expire March 3, 2013.
