Franklin county may buy more property in Eastpoint

Franklin County may soon own more property in Eastpoint which could be used for parking at the Eastpoint boat ramp.

Commissioners agreed on Tuesday to try to buy about a half acre across the street from the Eastpoint pavilion.

The property is currently owned by Centennial Bank, it has 124 feet fronting Highway 98 and about 142 feet fronting Patton drive.

Clerk of Court Marcia Johnson, who raised the issue, said the property could serve for additional parking for fishermen and seafood workers who use the Eastpoint boat ramp.

The land is valued at 37 thousand dollars but the county would have to demolish an old house on the site and possibly remove some old air conditioners and a gas tank.

They may also have to do some other improvements before the property could be a parking lot, but commissioners felt the project was worth following up on and agreed to begin negotiations with the bank.
