If you get a picture of a lionfish during the month of April you can
turn it into a free t-shirt from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The FWC has started a lionfish photo contest - All you have to do is take a
photo of yourself with your lionfish catch and post the photo on Twitter or
Instagram with #FWCLionfish.
In return for your efforts, the FWC will send you an
official “Lionfish Control Team” T-shirt.
Submitted photos must be your own and they can’t be photoshopped or
edited.
Once the photos are reviewed by the FWC , photographers
will be contacted to submit the original photo by email and the FWC may use the photos
for educational purposes.
The contest began Thursday and will end April 30 or when 150 T-shirts
have been given out.
Lionfish are native to the Indian and Pacific
oceans but are showing up in greater numbers in Florida waters.
Lionfish
are voracious eaters and it’s feared that they could damage native recreational
and commercial fish populations. Lionfish have red and white stripes and fanlike fins that resemble a lion's mane.
They also have a tall row of spines that you need to be careful about because they are extremely poisonous.
