The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is looking for people to fill seats on a number of advisory panels and scientific committees
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is looking for people to fill seats on a number of advisory panels and scientific committees.
The advisory panels provide information and help develop management rules for various fish species in the Gulf of Mexico.
There are 13 advisory panels that need members, including advisory panels on red drum, red snapper, reef fish, shrimp and spiny lobster.
The council is looking for recreational and commercial fishermen to join the panels, as well as seafood dealers and processors, conservationists, scientists, and concerned citizens.
Advisory panel members serve for two years and can reapply for their positions.
They generally meet no more than three or four times each year and are compensated for travel and per diem expenses for all meetings.
The Council is also recruiting for its Scientific and Statistical Committees.
There are 9 committees currently seeking members including Mackerel, Red Drum, Reef Fish, Shrimp and Spiny Lobster.
Membership for the Scientific and Statistical Committees are made up of economists, biologists, sociologists, and natural resource attorneys who are knowledgeable about the technical aspects of fisheries in the Gulf.
If you would like to apply for a position, you can send your Letters of interest to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council in Tampa by April 8, 2013.
