County preparing for retirement of Supervisor of Public Works

Franklin county commissioners are making preparations for the impending retirement of County supervisor of Public Works Hubert Chipman.

Hubert has worked for the county for nearly 35 years and took over the supervisor’s job in January of 2000 after the retirement of Prentiss Crum.

Mister Chipman will retire at the next month and the county has to make sure that someone is ready to fill in the vacancy.

On Monday the county commission held a special meeting where commissioners agreed to start advertising for Mister Chipman’s replacement.

The board also agreed to streamline the public works department by doing away with the assistant supervisor’s position and replace it with a working foreman.

The board said it would first advertise for the positions in house first to see if any current employees want to apply for the positions.
