County supports grant request for ambulance repair

Franklin county commissioners this week signed a Resolution of support for Weems Memorial Hospital to help pay for repairs to one of the hospital’s ambulances.

The hospital is applying for an EMS grant for just over 100 thousand dollars to re-chassis one of the existing ambulances.

Weems is applying for a 90/10 grant, meaning they are asking the state to pay 90% of the cost while the hospital would pay for the remaining 10 percent.

County administrative director Alan Pierce said the state can agree to pay 90%, or they can cut the state share to either 75percent or even 50 percent.

Hospital chief Ray Brownsworth said the repairs are needed and while all of the hospital’s ambulances are in operation at this time, they do require a lot of maintenance.
