Eastpoint library preparing for move to new location

The Eastpoint library is just a few months away from moving in to its new home.

The new library building is located on a 13 acre wooded tract off of Hickory Dip Road.

The new library will provide the library with a 5000 square foot building which is much larger than the libraries current location at the Point Mall.

The project, which broke ground in 2007, was delayed by funding issues, but thanks to a recent loan from the USDA, the work is continuing and the library should make the big move by June of this year.

The move may hamper some of the libraries summer programs but library directors hope to minimize the impacts as much as possible.

Work is also going on the grounds around the building.

The Friends of the library are working in conjunction with the Apalachicola Riverkeeper to develop the site, which will include a nature trail with an emphasis on protecting the numerous habitats on the 13 acre tract.
