Lifeline program requires annual certification

If you take part in Florida’s Lifeline Assistance telephone discount program – the public service commission wants to remind you that you have to certify your program eligibility every year.

The Lifeline program provides low cost telephone service to people who qualify.

Lifeline eligibility is based on income, at least 135 percent of the federal poverty level, or by participation in one of several federal assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or SSI.
Florida Lifeline subscribers receive at least a $9.25 discount on their monthly telephone bill or a free wireless telephone with a set amount of monthly minutes.
Under program changes implemented last year to curb waste, fraud, and abuse, lifeline participants are now required to certify their eligibility every year to continue receiving the monthly discount.
To certify that you are still eligible, just contact your telephone service provider.
For more information on Lifeline or to get a program application on-line go floridapsc.com, and look under Hot Topics on the homepage.
