Summer beach water testing begins in Franklin, Gulf and Wakulla counties

The Health department has begun testing local beach water to make sure that it is safe for swimmers.
The state currently takes bi-weekly water samples from 5 beaches in Franklin County, 6 in Gulf County and 2 in Wakulla.
Statewide they test waters at 304 beaches in 34 counties – they stop sampling on some of the smaller beaches during the winter months when swimming is minimal.
The program ended in our area last October for the winter months but began again on March the 1st.
The last water samples were taken on April the 1st – and water samples taken from popular beaches in Franklin county all came back clean.
That includes three beaches on St. George Island, Carrabelle Beach and Alligator Point.
Wakulla County also has no swimming advisories in effect.
