13th Annual Worm Grunting Festival
The thirteenth annual Sopchoppy Worm Gruntin’ Festival, a one-day outdoor event in the streets of historic downtown Sopchoppy, Florida, will be on Saturday, April 13, 2013. As always there will be live music and other entertainment, games for children and adults, the Worm Gruntin’ Contest, the Wakulla County Horseshoe Championship, a Hula Hoop Contest and much more. Once again, we will crown the Worm Grunter’s King and/or Queen and, in the evening, we will dance under the stars at the Worm Grunter’s Ball. As we do every year, we are planning on new events and more advertising. Last year’s festival was the best ever and there is every reason to expect that this year will be even better, attracting a record number of vendors and even more buyers, because we are planning an even better and more comprehensive publicity campaign. We have enjoyed a lot of press coverage and folks all over the world make plans well in advance to be here for the Festival. Through the years, most vendors have been very successful so most return year after year. You should have your booth here as well!

The Wakulla Wildlife Festival is one of the signature events that anchors the Wild About Wakulla Week. Held annually at Wakulla Springs State Park, the festival is a celebration of outdoor activities and area heritage.
Wakulla Springs State Park will be the hub of activities designed to educate, inspire and empower positive change by connecting individuals with their environment and heritage. FSU Coastal & Marine Laboratory – Bienniel Open House
The FSU Coastal & Marine Laboratory’s Spring Open House is Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 10 am to 3 pm. It only happens every other year, so make sure you don’t miss out! From tiny tots to those grownups who just never grew up, there will be something to educate, fascinate, and entertain everyone.
The theme this year is “The Ocean of Tomorrow”, in which we recognize the importance of scientists from different backgrounds working together to solve problems related to the coastal and marine environments. As it happens, this date is also the third anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster, so the theme brings to mind the research being conducted by FSU scientists across the university.
Highlights of this year’s Open House include:
- Tours of our new 65-ft. research vessel, the RV APALACHEE
- Talks by the scientists on the fascinating work that they do
- Touch tanks with critters presented by Saturday-at-the-Sea
- Interactive displays by scientists from FSU, state agencies, and conservation groups
- Silent auction with some great items and services from Friends of the Lab
- Delicious food from a local vendor, Seineyard
- Plenty of Parking
Gather your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and associates, and take a beautiful drive down to the coast for a day of fun! Can’t wait to see you again!

St. Mark’s Yacht Club to host National Film Expert
Open Interview Event with Dean of FSU’s Renowned Film School
Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.
St. Marks – Professor Frank Patterson, Dean of the FSU College of Motion Picture Arts, is the featured guest at the Yacht Club’s Up Close and Personal Spotlight Event on Saturday, April 20th at 7:30 pm.
In a conversational-style interview led by Dr. Betty Ann Korzenny, Adjunct Professor, Florida State University, School of Communication, she and Dean Patterson will discuss highlights from his 25 years of experience as a filmmaker, educator & consultant. The audience will have the opportunity to meet Dean Patterson and to ask questions about his extensive involvement in the film world from Hollywood to the State of Florida.
Dean Patterson received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Communication from Baylor University. He has served as the President of The Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood, CA and Director of the School of Film and Television at Chapman University. Currently he leads the Film School at FSU, which The Directors Guild of America has recognized for its distinguished contributions to American Culture.
The Hollywood Reporter, a trade publication, named Frank Patterson one of the nation’s top mentors to a generation of Hollywood filmmakers. The Florida Governor’s Office recognized him for “inspiring a generation of Florida filmmakers” and for his “contribution to and support of production in Florida.” Former FSU Provost, Lawrence G. Abele, remarked: “Frank Patterson has brought incredible energy, vision, technical expertise and aesthetic sense to our Film School. No one has done more to elevate the place of film in the University and among the arts than Frank.”
The general public in the area is invited to this community event. It is an opportunity to gain an insider’s view into the education of future film leaders and current trends in the film world. There will be light refreshments prior to the interview and time for questions and discussion with the speaker.
