Franklin county attorney gets a raise

Franklin County commissioners have agreed to give their attorney a raise.

The board Tuesday approved to increase attorney Michael Shuler’s pay from 80 dollars an hour to 100 dollars an hour.

The vote to do so was split 3 to 2.

Commissioner Pinki Jackel was especially opposed to the move.

She pointed out that the amount Mister Shuler was asking for was more than he sought when the county commission was interviewing candidates for the attorney’s position earlier this year.

She said was especially concerned that the county would increase the attorney’s pay at this time when there are county employees who have not seen a raise in nearly 6 years.

Commission Jackel asked that the issue be tabled until after this year’s budget negotiations, but here request was defeated.

Commission chairperson Cheryl Sanders also opposed the pay increase.
