Last summer’s tropical storms
are still claiming some local victims – in this case pine trees in the St.
George Plantation .
Mister
Mahan along with Daniel Stevens of the Florida Forest Service visited the site and determined
that the trees were likely severely stressed by saltwater flooding during last year’s
storms Debby & Isaac.
The
root damage caused by the saltwater flooding stressed the trees to the point
where they were successfully attacked by Ips bark beetles and killed.
