THE PATROL TO TICKET AGGRESSIVE CARS AND TRUCKS DURING SAFETY CAMPAIGN

~ Big trucks equal big blind spots, so pass safely ~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Next week, drivers in Florida will be the focus of a targeted education and
enforcement campaign to increase awareness of the dangers related to aggressive driving. Beginning
May 6 and continuing through May 11, the Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting the third phase of
the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle’s Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT)
campaign, designed to highlight how aggressive driving behaviors can put motorists on the highway at a serious
disadvantage when involved in a crash with a larger vehicle.

“The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to keeping our roadways safe for all
motorists,” said Florida Highway Patrol Colonel David Brierton. “In order to
keep you and your family safe when driving, motorists should exercise extra
caution when sharing the road with larger vehicles.”

In conjunction with the targeted enforcement, billboards around Tampa, Orlando
and Daytona Beach will display safety messages for car and truck drivers on how to share the road safely. The
Florida Trucking Association (FTA) is partnering with the Department on the initiative to help conduct outreach
activities in schools and community centers during the week.

“Safety on Florida’s roadways is the top priority of the trucking industry,” said Mary Lou Rajchel, FTA
President. “We are pleased to partner with the Florida Highway Patrol to highlight the No Zone message about
safe driving behaviors around big rigs on the road. Pairing the ‘Big Trucks Equal Big Blind Spots’ message
with community education opportunities is a unique approach that we believe will promote responsible driving
for everyone.”

Throughout the week, troopers statewide will be on the lookout for car and truck drivers engaged in aggressive
driving behaviors such as following too closely, making unsafe lane changes and speeding.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles provides highway safety and security through
excellence in service, education and enforcement. The Department is leading the way to a safer Florida through
the efficient and professional execution of its core mission: the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle tags and
titles and operation of the Florida Highway Patrol. To learn more about DHSMV and the services offered, visit
