May 2013 was one of the driest on record for the Tallahassee area

This May was one of the driest on record.
 
According to the National weather Service, May 2013 tied with 1897 as the 4th driest on record for our area.
 
Rainfall measured at the Tallahassee Regional airport less than a half inch – more than 3 inches below normal.
 
The driest May on record was in 1965 when there was no measurable rain the entire month.
 
This May was also cooler than normal. 
 
The average monthly temperature for May was 72.9 degrees, about 1.4 degrees below normal.
 
The highest temperature recorded at the Tallahassee airport was 95 degrees on the 20th and 23rd and the coldest was 44 degrees on the 14th.
 
The Weather service said the outlook is for above normal rainfall in June.
