Woods fire on Saturday keeps local firefighters busy through the night

Local firefighters were busy early Saturday morning when a fire broke out in a wooded area between two homes on North Bayshore Drive in Eastpoint.

The fire was reported just after midnight Saturday.

Fire fighters from Eastpoint, Apalachicola and St. George Island responded and kept the blaze from touching the nearby homes.

Many of the trucks were on scene until 6 o’clock in the morning.

The Florida Forest Service also responded with a tractor and managed to cut fire breaks around the fire to help stop the spread.

The fire burned about an acre and a half of woods.

The cause is not known but may have started from an outdoor fire at one of the homes earlier in the day.

At this time Florida Forest Service officials are urging everyone to exercise caution with the use of any outdoor fire particularly until our area receives more rain.
