Fishery Management Council to consider changes to red snapper rules

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has scheduled a series of public hearings around the Gulf of Mexico to get public comment on proposed changes to red snapper management rules.

The proposal is to divide the federal recreational red snapper quota among states or regions.

The change would potentially give states more flexibility in choosing seasons and bag limits, but would not necessarily result in more fishing days.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is expected to take final action on the proposal as early as August, 2013.

The closest public hearing to our area will be held on Wednesday, August the 7th at the Holiday Inn Select in Panama City.
