RE: Flags at Half-Staff
______________________________ ______________________________ ____________
On Saturday, July 27, 2013, Colonel George Everette “Bud” Day, an heroic Air Force fighter pilot and Medal of Honor recipient, passed away. Colonel Day served our country with honor and bravery during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, including five years and seven months as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam.
Colonel Day was one of America’s most decorated servicemen. In addition to the Medal of Honor, he received the Air Force Cross and 70 other medals and awards. Following his retirement from the military, Colonel Day moved to Fort Walton Beach where he began practicing law and became an advocate for veterans’ health care benefits. As a mark of respect for the memory of war hero and Medal of Honor recipient Colonel “Bud” Day, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the County Courthouse of Okaloosa, Florida, the City Hall of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, August 1, 2013.
