County
commissioners will hold public hearings on Tuesday dealing with changes to the
federal flood insurance program.
Those changes include
revisions to the flood maps and in some cases increases in the base flood
elevations.
The county will also hold
a public hearing on a rule to allow homes to be built up to three feet above
base flood requirements.
Currently Franklin County has an ordinance that
prohibits homes from starting their first floors above the base flood
requirement, but the county will hold a public hearing Tuesday to change that
rule so that people building new homes can save significant money on flood
insurance.
If the change is approved
homes themselves would still be limited to 35 feet in height, but the first
floor of homes could start up to three feet higher.
County commissioners on
Tuesday will also get an update on the ongoing repairs to the St George Island fishing pier, which may
not be complete until mid-August.
There will also be an
update on Weems Memorial Hospital and a public hearing to
rezone property on St. George Island to C-4, mixed use
commercial/residential.
Tomorrow afternoon the
county commission will interview applicants for road camp superintendent.

agenda on-line at oysterradio.com.
The county commission
meeting starts at 9 Am on Tuesday at the Franklin county Courthouse Annex in Apalachicola .
