Franklin county provides 5000 dollars to DEBS softball team for World Series trip

Franklin County commissioners agreed Tuesday to provide 5000 dollars to the Franklin County DEBS softball team to help pay their way to the softball World Series.

The Franklin county DEBS are local 17 to 19 year olds – they wone their second state title in 2 years in early July.

The World Series will be held in Alexandria, Louisiana August 2nd through the 7th.

The county has a policy to provide 5000 dollars to teams which make it to state level play or beyond.

And while the money will help, it won’t be enough to fund the entire trip so the DEBS have a number of fund-raisers to help reach their goal.

They are holding a “corn hole” tournament on Saturday at Riverfront Park in Apalachicola starting at 5pm.

The cost to take part in that tourney is $40 per team.

The team will be bagging for bucks at the Piggly Wiggly and IGA in Apalachicola on weekends.

If you would like to make a donation but can’t make it to any of the fund-raisers, they also have an account set up at centennial bank under "Franklin county travel softball"
