Swimming advisory issued for Shell Point; none issued in Franklin County

The water in Franklin County should be fine for swimming this Weekend.

Water samples were taken from 5 Franklin county beaches including three on St. George Island as well as Carrabelle beach and Alligator Point on July the 8th.

Moderate levels of enterococcus bacteria were found at Carrabelle beach and alligator Point but concentrations were not high enough to warrant a swimming advisory.

There has been a swimming advisory issued for Shell Point in Wakulla County because of high concentrations of enterococcus found there.

Samples were last reported from Gulf County on June 17th, and there were no advisories issued for that county at the time.

The Florida Department of Health takes weekly or bi-weekly water samples swimming area around Florida to make sure there are no dangerous bacteria in the water.
