2013 showing strong tourism numbers

Florida tourism is looking up.

According to preliminary estimates released this week by VISIT FLORIDA, 23.4 million visitors came to Florida between April and June.

That’s an increase of 2.6 percent over the same period in 2012 and makes the second quarter of 2013 the largest second quarter for visitation in the state’s history.

An estimated 19.7 million domestic visitors and 2.7 million overseas visitors came to Florida during the second quarter of 2013.

There were also about 1 million Canadian visitors.

Nearly 11.5 million Florida residents are estimated to have taken an in-state pleasure trip during the second quarter.

Florida welcomed 49.6 million visitors during the first half of the year – an increase of 4.2 percent over the year before.

Visitor spending in Florida for January-May was $33.2 billion dollars.
