Commissioner Putnam Thanks Governor Scott, Attorney General Bondi for Taking Action to Protect Florida’s Water Supply, Apalachicola Economy
Florida Files Lawsuit Against Georgia to Remedy Impact of Inadequate Water Flow
Tallahassee, FL – Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement today after Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi filed suit on behalf of the state of Florida against the state of Georgia:
“For more than a decade, Florida’s governors have been seeking relief from Washington for the decline in health of Apalachicola Bay. As a member of Congress and now Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, I too have been calling on every asset at our disposal to protect this precious gem.
“Now on the verge of collapse, Apalachicola Bay can no longer wait for Washington to act. The inadequate water flows have disrupted the bay’s ecosystem and resulted in severe economic difficulties for the good people of the Apalachicola Bay area. This extraordinary economic and ecological crisis demands an extraordinary response.
“I am grateful to Governor Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi for taking this historic course of action to remedy the destruction of Apalachicola Bay and the communities that depend on it.”
