Franklin County receives another half million dollars for Bluff road project

The county commission agreed this week to accept another half million dollars from the Florida Department of Transportation to help cover the costs of widening and resurfacing Bluff Road in Apalachicola.

Initially DOT provided about 1.8 million dollars for the work which would extend over 4 and a half miles from Highway 98 to Pine Log Road.

Three companies bid on the job, the lowest bid came in at over 2.2 million dollars which means the county didn’t have enough to pay for the entire project.

The Department of Transportation has now agreed to provide an additional 529 thousand dollars so that the project can be developed as designed.

Work on the project should begin within 90 days.
