Some state land in Franklin County may soon be on the auction block

Some property in the Tate’s Hell State Forest and the Box-R Ranch Wildlife Management Area could soon be up for sale.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is in the process of assessing all 3 million acres of conservation land owned by Florida and considering which parcels to sell.

The state says the money could then be used to purchase more valuable conservation land that does more to protect springs, water resources and our military installations.

Currently there are about 4200 acres of land on the draft list for potential sale.

Of those there are 26 acres in the Box R Ranch Wildlife Management Area just west of Apalachicola.

There are 4 tracts in the Tate’s Hall Forest also on the list totaling 14 acres.

The smallest parcel is less than half an acre and the largest is about 6 and a half acres.

8 parcels in the Torreya State Park in Liberty County are also on the list.
