The
Franklin county health department
will provide breast cancer screenings this week as part of breast cancer
awareness month.
On
Wednesday the screenings will be provided at the Apalachicola Bay charter school at 3
PM .
On
Thursday they will be offered at the Franklin county school at 2:20 .
The
Health Department recommends that women get regular mammograms.
Often,
in the beginning stages of breast cancer, lumps are too small to feel; signs
and symptoms are not always present.
A
mammogram is the best test for finding breast cancer early, sometimes up to
three years before it can be felt.
The
health department offers screenings to uninsured women of low income who
qualify through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
You
can get more information about the Department of health Breast and Cervical
Cancer Early Detection Program, by calling the health department in Apalachicola at 653-2111.
