Local oystermen could see a shorter work week in
the very near future.
County administrative director Alan Pierce told
county commissioners this week that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission plans to shorten the work week to 5 days a week Monday through
Friday.
The shorter week is being proposed because of the
lack of oysters in the bay.
Mister Pierce said he does not know when the
change will take place but said it will likely be soon.
He added that the FWC also plans to work with the county commission and
the local community to determine how best to manage the oyster harvest.
A fishery failure was declared for the oyster
fishery earlier this year.
