gag grouper season closes next week

Gag grouper will close for recreational harvest in most Gulf of Mexico state waters beginning next week.

The fishery will close on December 4th, with the last day of harvest being December 3rd.

The last day to fish = for gag grouper in federal waters of the Gulf is December 2nd.

The closure won’t have much of an impact on our area as state waters off Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties have been closed since June 30^th.

The closure is an effort to help rebuild gag grouper populations in the Gulf of Mexico back to strong sustainable levels.
