Winter Storm warning in effect for our area

A winter storm warning will take effect in Northwest Florida today so people should take precautions against the cold and potentially dangerous driving conditions.

A Winter Storm Warning means that there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

The Winter Storm warning will begin at 1 today and extend through noon on Wednesday.

There is the potential for rain along with freezing temperatures which could lead to ice accumulating on roadways, especially bridges.

It’s possible some inland areas could even see a little snow.

State emergency management officials are concerned about driving conditions, especially overnight, so if you have to drive, be aware that some roadways could have ice buildup of a tenth to a quarter inch.

Officials say if there is more rain than is expected then power outages could also be a concern.

Remember, if you are using a space heater to heat your home to keep it away from anything flammable and make sure your smoke detectors are working.

Do not use charcoal or other fuel-burning devices, such as grills to heat your home.
