Parks
and recreation department head Nikki Millender said the announcement was made
last week and the Tournament will be coming to Franklin
county
June
13th through the 16th.
Currently
the only park ready to hold large tournaments is the Will Kendrick sports
complex in carrabelle, but the county is pushing to upgrade its fields in
Eastpoint and Apalachicola .
The
DW Wilson Park in Apalachicola needs electronic scoreboards, which would run
upwards of 9000 dollars but Miss Millender said she has been working with Waste
Pro and Duke energy and hopes to get the costs covered by them.
Vrooman
park in Eastpoint is too small to host tournaments at this time, but possibly
could be expanded if the county can get neighboring power lines moved or
buried.
County
commissioners gave Nikki approval to move forward with talks with Duke Energy
on the best way to deal with the power line issue.
