Chili cookoff coming up this weekend

Franklin County is getting ready for the 32nd annual chili cook-off on St. George Island.

On Tuesday the county commission agreed to close off Chili Blvd and the first block of W. Gulf Beach Drive on March 1st where the cook-off will be held.

The chili cook-off brings an estimated 8000 people to the county and raises well over 100 thousand dollars every year which makes up nearly half of the fire departments annual budget.

The cook-off will continue to charge the 5 dollar entry fee this year.

People will also not be allowed to bring in coolers or alcohol again this year but will still be able to buy beer at the site.

This year’s entertainment will be Drew Tillman.

The fire department is also looking for items to auction off this year.

If you have something you would like to donate to the cause call Jay Abbott at 653-6462.
