6 Endangered Sea Turtles will be released back into the Gulf of Mexico on Friday.

6 Endangered Sea Turtles will be released back into the Gulf of Mexico on Friday.

The turtles were among over 200 that were rescued this year for cold stun rehabilitation after severe cold snaps.

The turtles are cold blooded.

They cannot thermo regulate their body temperature and as a result, the cold temperatures place the animals in a hypothermic state and they become very weak.

Most of the turtles were released quickly, but eight sea turtles required further rehabilitation due to various secondary illnesses such as pneumonia and impaction.

The 6 turtles that will be released by the Gulf world marine Institute on Friday include 4 juvenile green sea turtles and one juvenile Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle.

The release will take place at noon at Cape Palms Park in Cape San Blas.
