Franklin County unemployment jumps in January

Franklin County’s unemployment rate took a big jump in January.
Local unemployment rose from 5.3 percent in December to 6 percent in January.
Twenty-two counties had lower unemployment rates than Franklin County.
308 people were looking for work in Franklin County in January, up from 271 the month before.
Gulf County unemployment also rose from 6.2 to 6.9 percent.
403 people were looking for work in Gulf County in January, up from 361 the month before.
In Wakulla County the unemployment rate rose slightly from 5.5 to 5.6 percent.
Liberty County unemployment went from 5.4 to 5.7 percent.
Overall, the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent in January, the lowest it’s been since June 2008.
