Oystermen now required to take training program before getting harvesters license

There is a new requirement this year for oystermen applying for an Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesting License.

Beginning this year, oystermen must complete an authorized educational training program.

The training program will be offered at the Shellfish Center in Apalachicola beginning April 1st.

The training will be held 3 days a week, Tuesday through Thursday at 3 pm.

Once the course has been completed, oyster harvesters will get a certificate of completion which will have to be presented when they pay for their Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesting license.

No license will be issued without this certificate.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will begin selling the Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesting License on Monday, May 19thth.

The cost of the license remains at $100.00.

The licenses must be purchased before June 30th or there is an additional $500.00 late fee.

If you have any questions about the training program or about the purchase of your oyster harvesting license you can call the Shellfish Center, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00 pm, at 653-8317.
