Gulf County Sheriff's office investigates accidental death




Gulf County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputies responded to 1624 Grouper Avenue in Highland View this morning. At approximately 8:40am, a 911 call was received regarding a subject driving a fork lift which had become entangled in the power lines. Initial information provided by the caller revealed the subject was “shocked” by electricity and unconscious.

Once emergency personnel arrived, Richard Dewayne Lancaster (59) was found unresponsive inside a fork lift. He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf in Port St. Joe where he was later pronounced deceased. 

GCSO Deputies continue to investigate the accident. An autopsy will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office of the 14th Judicial Circuit.
