Franklin County’s
coastline is a lot cleaner thanks to a few hundred volunteers and a lot of
work.
The annual Coastal Cleanup was held last Saturday removing over 5 tons
of trash and debris from the local waterfront.
In total 321 volunteers took part in the one-day cleanup on
Saturday and picked up a total of 289 bags of trash.
Site managers totaled 5.2 tons of trash from 17 sites; the exact
totals from the landfill should be reported later this week.
The trash was primarily cans, bottles, cigarette butts, plastic, styrofoam,
fishing gear, ropes, and other litter.
But there were also about 10 tires, a windshield frame, a toilet seat, a
razor scooter, a radiator and a disassembled bed all found on the local shoreline.
