Last Saturday’s Wounded Warrior Project benefit, co-sponsored by American legion Post 82 and Harry’s Bar in Carrabelle, was even more successful than anticipated according to Legion Commander Tim Kelleher and Robert “Bob” Baker of Harry’s Bar. So much so that they are already making plans for just such an event next year.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, more than $2,800 was raised and will be forwarded to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Members of Post 82 and Harry’s Bar sold (for a small donation) “Wounded Warrior Supporter” bracelets during the week leading up to the event. The Legionnaires will continue to make the bracelets available at their booth at the Florida Seafood Festival Oct. 31 – Nov. 1.
Locally famous Thomas Lee Brannan and his fellow Sons of the American Legion crew spent much of the day grilling chicken halves. Every single chicken dinner was sold during the course of the four-hour event held in the courtyard at Harry’s Bar!!!
In addition to DJ and karaoke music by Lady C of Wicked Entertainment, Legionnaire Chuck Spicer conducted a live auction where there was spirited bidding on all the many cakes and pies prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary and members of the community. There was also supportive bidding on the many items gathered from local donors by Bob and Vivian at Harry’s. A great crowd of veterans and community members were in attendance to support this very worthy cause, even though this turned out to be the busiest local festival day of the year. Thank you to all who took part in and supported this event, but most of all, thank you to all of the Vets who sacrificed so much for us and our country!!!
