Attorney General Pam Bondi Reaches Settlement with Sirius XM Over Allegations of Unwanted Subscription Renewals, Credit Card Charges and Delayed Refunds

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi reached a settlement with satellite radio company Sirius XM over allegations the company automatically renewed customers’ subscriptions without their consent, made it difficult to cancel services, charged consumers’ credit cards without their knowledge and failed to provide timely refunds.

“Consumers should not have to pay for services they did not knowingly subscribe to. Our settlement with Sirius helps ensure that consumers are protected against unwanted contract renewals and are refunded money for services they did not authorize,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi.

As part of the settlement agreement, Sirius will pay the state $250,000 and enhance oversight by recording all sales calls and making them available for review by the state. The company will also provide notice to customers at least 30 days before their services are renewed and on a semi-annual basis and submit a report to the Attorney General’s Office with the statistical analysis of customer phone calls, wait times, call interruptions and more.

The settlement also directs Sirius to address consumer complaints and offer refunds to consumers seeking restitution for unwanted services and unwarranted charges. There is no upward limit on consumer restitution. The company must report the outcomes of all consumer complaints to the Attorney General’s Office. A neutral third-party approved by the state will review complaints the company is unable to resolve independently.

Sirius customers who want to file a complaint with the company should visit www.siriusxm.com/settlementprogram or mail a letter detailing their complaint to:
