Florida's child restrain laws change on January 1st

If you have young children you should know that Florida is changing its child restraint law with the new year.

Beginning January 1st, children aged 4 and 5 will be required to sit in a child safety seat or a booster seat rather than only being buckled in a seatbelt.

The change is an effort to save lives.

In 2013, 5 children were killed and 150 injured in Florida traffic crashes as a result of improper or no child restraint use.

So far this year, 5 children have been killed and 145 injured for the same reason.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, booster seat use reduces the risk for serious injury by 45% for children ages 4–8 years when compared with seat belt use alone.
