Franklin
County has fired the head of its parks and recreation department after she was
arrested on charges of stealing from the local youth
football program.
Alan
Pierce, the county’s director of administrative services, said he terminated Nikki
Millender on November 30th.
She
was arrested last month on two counts of Grand Theft third degree
after confessing to taking the cash registration fees for the 2013 and 2014
youth football seasons.
Mister
Pierce said she does have the right to appeal the firing and has 15 days to make
the appeal in writing.
Currently
the Park and Rec department is being supervised by the county solid waste
director Fonda Davis.
2
temporary workers who were hired through an FWC Turtle grant have been put
under the direction of the local extension office.
Commissioners
said they will leave the Parks and Recreation Department with Solid Waste for
now and if a long-term decision needs to be made for the department they will
do that at a future meeting.
