Health officials in Franklin and
Gulf Counties say they have had good success this year in getting school aged
children vaccinated against the flu.
In October local health departments partnered with schools in Gulf
and Franklin Counties to kick off a flu vaccination campaign to provide seasonal
flu vaccinations to students and faculty during regular hours at each school
location.
This year, 150 flu shots were provided in Franklin county
schools and 325 were provided in Gulf County schools.
Over 50 more kids got their shots at one of the Franklin county
health department locations and about 170 more went to a health department in
Gulf County.
Health officials said “Providing flu shots
to children and school staff can help protect them from getting sick. “When
more children are vaccinated against the flu, flu cannot as easily spread
through the school system and into the community.”
