This New Year's Day, many Florida State Parks are offering guided hikes to visitors. First Day Hikes provide the opportunity to start a new year in a healthy way with family and friends. This year there are more than 30 events throughout the state.
"I am very excited to offer this opportunity to Floridians and visitors around the state," Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione said. "First Day Hikes are a unique chance to start the New Year healthy, outdoors and with family and friends."
The events in Florida are part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes, which is a national initiative aimed at getting people outside and healthy to start the New Year. The hikes will be guided by park staff and volunteers who will provide educational commentary along the way. Come dressed appropriately with sturdy shoes or boots. For those who do not enjoy hiking, most Florida State Parks will be open regular hours for visitors.
