Recreational fishing for Red grouper, greater amberjack, and gray triggerfish will reopen January 1st

Recreational fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico will have three more species to fish for beginning January the 1st.
Recreational fishing for Red grouper, greater amberjack, and gray triggerfish will reopen January 1st.
Red grouper has a 20 inch total length size limit.
The bag limit is 4-fish per person but that won’t last for long.
There is a pending rule to reduce the bag limit for red grouper to 2 fish.
The size limit for Gray triggerfish is 14 inches fork length – the daily bag limit is 2 fish.
The size limit for Greater amberjack is 30 inches fork length, the bag limit is 1 per person.

The three species are being monitored closely for overfishing and accountability measures are in place that requires an in-season closure if the quota is met or projected to be met.
