APALACHICOLA NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE HIRES NEW RESEARCH COORDINATOR

APALACHICOLA - The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) has hired Rebecca Bernard, PhD as the new Research Coordinator at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.  Rebecca received her PhD from the University of Alabama and her MS from Florida International University, and her BS from Michigan State University. Rebecca is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan but lived most recently on Dauphin Island, Alabama.

Much of Rebecca’s research has focused on the biogeochemistry of nitrogen cycling in bare sediments and seagrass beds and she has investigated how nitrogen was removed or whether it remained biologically available in various estuarine systems.

“Rebecca’s expertise in estuarine systems will broaden the capacity for research and monitoring within Apalachicola Bay. We are very pleased to recruit this caliber of personnel to the Apalachicola Reserve”, says Reserve Manager Jennifer Harper.

Rebecca was a National Estuarine Research Reserve fellow at the Weeks Bay NERR in Alabama from 2011 to 2013. In her down time Rebecca likes to fish and knit. She can be reached at(850) 670-7721 or Rebecca.Bernard@dep.state.fl.us.
