FLORIDA WATER RESOURCE MONITORING COUNCIL HOSTS MEETING TO DISCUSS CONTINUOUS WATER QUALITY MONITORING
~Water quality monitoring groups meet to further coordinate monitoring efforts~
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Water Resource Monitoring Council is conducting a meeting to discuss the collection, use and other developing issues associated with continuous water quality monitoring tools. Many agencies and organizations are beginning to deploy continuous water quality monitoring devices and this is an opportunity to share experiences with installation, data collection and quality, and other issues associated with the collection, storage and use of such data.
“The Monitoring Council focuses on sharing statewide efforts, projects and new technology to ensure an efficient monitoring community,” said Gail Sloane of DEP’s Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration and chair of the Water Resource Monitoring Council. “Continuous monitoring is a developing technology that allows monitoring organizations to provide real-time information to the public and decision makers.”

The meeting will build upon experiences of the Southwest, Suwannee River and St. John’s Water Management Districts, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Ocean Research and Conservation Association, and the Department of Environmental Protection, as well as participants from other agencies and organizations with significant water quality monitoring responsibilities.
The Florida Water Resources Monitoring Council is chaired by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and is a coordinating body of 21 stakeholders that participate in water resource monitoring and management. The council is charged with informing, planning and coordinating water resource monitoring efforts at the state, local and federal levels.
The council strives to focus on projects and products to advance high-quality, integrated water resource monitoring in Florida. The council holds quarterly public meetings to share information on local and regional monitoring programs, data initiatives, project updates from workgroups and other relevant information.
