Lightning has been ruled the cause of a house fire on St.
George Island Friday morning.
Volunteer fire crews from St. George Island and Eastpoint
were called out just after 11 AM Friday to a home on 331 Howell Street.
Luckily no one was in the home at the time of the fire – the
residents were across the street.
St. George Island fire chief Jay Abbot said firefighters
were able to save some of the structure and belongings but the damage to the 2
story wooden structure was severe.
He said the fire marshal’s office ruled lightning as the
cause.
He also thanked the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department for
their assistance.
